CIVILIAN GUN SELF-DEFENSE BLOG

Stories of civilians using guns in self-defense

Missouri homeowner Bob Nicholson was at home in bed when a man began pounding on his door. As Nicholson went to see the commotion, the man went into the front of his truck, parked near Nicholson’s, and then around to the back of the house. As the suspect attempted to jimmy the back door open, Nicholson retrieved a handgun and put it to a window in the door by the intruders head and ordered him to stop. The suspect stopped his attempt to break in and fled to his truck, driving off as Nicholson fired a warning shot.                                                                                        (KMBC, Kansas City, Missouri 02/26/10)

B&P II

Part II

Day two welcomed us with bright sunlight and warm sunshine. The desert was alive with activity. The Saguaro Cactus were a brilliant green as were the Ocotillo and the Teddy Bear Cholla were a blazon tan.

After a quick bite a “Cinnabon”, we headed to Bass Pro Shop in Mesa, AZ where we ogled in delight at all the eye candy then commenced filling our shopping basket to the brim. Surprisingly, we were able to get out of there with “dinero” to spare for our next morning trip to Cabelas.

We were back at the Resort by lunchtime and decided to set camp at the beach pool. I grabbed a chaise lounge under a couple palms and ordered up some “Whiskey Sour’s” three at a time. The sun was very “hot” at times and the breeze was mild enough to keep the burning sun at bay.

Four or so hours later, we commenced gathering for dinner #2, at P F Chang’s in Scottsdale. Again, a short walk from the resort followed by a fine evening of “chow” and conversation. Our table quest was none other than entrepreneur “MJ”, founder of “The Fastlane to Million$“! The table “talk” was nothing shy of hilarious, what with discussion on everything from current events to political view-point’s, and we were the last of the group to depart the restaurant. My son was treated to a “ride” in “MJ’s” Lamborghini Countach of which he respectfully declined, for reasons unbeknownst to me! But we all were treated to a glimpse of the sports cars interior and exterior. Way cool dude! Thanks MJ!

More to come this weekend.

Beer & Pancakes

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

So I got to spend the last four days in Phoenix, AZ. The temperatures were in the high 70′s, low 80′s and the pool-side drinks were outstanding.

My son and I were able to tag along with my wife whom was traveling for a meeting of “Masterminds“, an annual meeting, and this particular function was held at the “Firesky Resort” in Scottsdale.

I was excited for this trip as I would get to visit two of my favorite stores: Bass Pro Shops & Cabelas. I knew this would be my opportunity to add several items to my hunting garb and reloading equipment.

Upon arrival to the “Firesky”, we got settled into our room then immediately headed to the pool for drinks and to let the boy swim. The resort has two swimming pools, one of which has a sandy beach that enters the water till about 3′ deep then transitions to a normal swimming pool. It was a “hoot” to say the least.

After several drinks, we prepared to meet with the ‘Mastermind” group for dinner down the road at the “Yardhouse” restaurant. I was truly out of my element in “the city” and all and decided to walk instead of drive. Seems the older I get, the further from the city folk I like to be. Dinner was entertaining and we got to see some pretty cool cars in the “Valet” lot such as a Lamborghini Diablo, Maserti and several Ferrari’s!

Seems I was the only “Stetson” wearin’, boot kickin’ belt buckle totin’ cow-poke to be found. At least they had PBR!

Curious about the title? Come back in a couple days to finish hearing about my trip to Phoenix.

New Rule on Guns in Parks Takes Effect February 22

On February 22, a new law on guns in national parks takes effect.  The law repeals a National Park Service rule that has long prohibited Americans from lawfully possessing firearms in national parks for self-defense.

The new law, passed last spring by an overwhelming bipartisan vote in the U.S. Senate, will allow people to possess, carry and transport firearms in national parks, in accordance with state law.

However, many details remain to be worked out.  Reports indicate that National Park Service officials are debating issues such as the definition of “federal facilities,” where firearms will remain prohibited under a different federal law.

NPS officials are expected to issue further information as February 22 approaches, and some parks have already published information on their new policies.  Because state laws vary greatly, before you visit a national park, you should check the park’s website or call the park headquarters for more information.  NRA will also provide updates as they become available.

Contact Starbucks And Protect The Right-To-Carry

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

As we reported last week, the Brady Campaign’s latest desperate attempt at relevancy involves a publicity stunt attacking Starbucks for allowing the lawful carry of firearms in its stores as provided for by state law.

“It’s everyone’s right to sit in a restaurant or coffee shop with their families without intimidation or fear of guns,” the group said in its modern rendition of FDR’s famous “freedom from fear” quote.

As we pointed out, the Brady Campaign has been quick to fabricate a “right” to feel free from fear, while angrily scoffing at the right to self-protection, by encouraging its minions to sign a petition demanding that Starbucks establish a gun policy more restrictive than state law. “I demand that Starbucks stand up for the safety of its customers and prohibit guns in your [sic] retail establishments,” the petition reads.

Now the group is trying to gain political momentum for its stunt by claiming it has 25,000 names on its petition.

Despite occasional rhetoric to the contrary, the Brady Campaign has always wanted nothing less than a total ban on guns.  They’ve lost much of their political relevance over the years, and now are desperate to regain some by any means possible.  Today it’s a petition attacking Starbucks.  Tomorrow it’s every public place. Next week it’s your home, and next month it’s no guns anywhere.  And we’re back to the anti-gunners’ very flawed square one:  disarm the law-abiding, while leaving the thugs, gang-bangers, and drug dealers armed. That’s their plan for a “safer” world where we don’t have “fear or intimidation.”

But back in the real world, what about YOUR Constitutionally-guaranteed right to safety and self-defense?

A call to Starbucks confirmed what was pretty obvious on its face.  The company is in the business to sell coffee, not jump in the middle of a Brady-generated squabble that state law has already resolved in favor of the right to carry firearms.

Members, gun owners, and all freedom-loving citizens should contact Starbucks to thank them for complying with state law, and respectfully encourage the company to stay above the fray into which anti-gun activists are trying to drag them.  Click here to do so.
